América Latina y China: comercio internacional y crecimiento económico

Resumen

En 1990 la participación de China en las importaciones globales de América Latina (ALC) era incipiente, mientras que para 2019 China se había convertido en el segundo proveedor de la región. Este documento utiliza una muestra de 14 países de ALC, estima los efectos de las importaciones de China en el crecimiento económico de cada país de ALC y verifica si estos efectos se evidencian en los sectores no exportadores o exportadores de estos países. Estimamos un sistema de regresiones aparentemente no relacionadas (SUR) para cada sector. Los resultados muestran que antes de que China ingresara a la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC), las importaciones de ALC desde China afectaron positivamente el crecimiento económico de algunos países de ALC. Sin embargo, el número de países beneficiarios aumentó tras la adhesión de China a la OMC. Las importaciones desde China impulsan el crecimiento económico de los sectores no exportadores de Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador y El Salvador, el sector exportador de República Dominicana y ambos sectores de Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Perú, Uruguay y Venezuela. Con excepción de la República Dominicana, los países cuyos sectores exportadores se benefician de las importaciones de China son países primarios exportadores. Se estiman efectos adversos o nulos para el resto de los países.

Jorge Omar Moreno Treviño estudió el Doctorado y la Maestría en Economía en la Universidad de Chicago, la Maestría en Economía en El Colegio de México, y la Licenciatura en Economía en la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL).

El Dr. Moreno ejerció como Profesor Asistente y Profesor Asociado en diversos cursos de Microeconomía, Macroeconomía, Teoria de las Finanzas, Finanzas Corporativas Avanzadas, Métodos Empíricos en Finanzas, Econometría Avanzada, y Microfundamentos del Sistema Financiero y Desarrollo Económico, en El Colegio de México, la Universidad de Chicago, y en el Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM); a partir de Agosto de 2015, es Profesor-Investigador en la Facultad de Economía de la UANL donde imparte cátedra a nivel de licenciatura y de postgrado, y actualmente es Investigador Nacional (Nivel 1) del SNI-CONACYT e Investigador Asociado a la Fundación de Estudios Financieros de México (FUNDEF).

Fuera del ámbito académico, el Dr. Moreno ejerció como Subdirector de Investigaciones en la Dirección General de Asuntos Hacendarios Internacionales de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP); Economista del Banco Mundial para la región de México, Colombia, y Venezuela, en el área de Desarrollo Humano; Investigador Asistente en The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) de la Universidad de Chicago, e Investigador Invitado en la Dirección de Análisis del Sistema Financiero del Banco de México. También ha participado en diversos proyectos de consultoría para el sector financiero, el sector privado, y el gobierno en sus distintos ámbitos.

El Dr. Jorge O. Moreno ha publicado en distintos libros y revistas especializadas en finanzas y economía, ha sido invitado a presentar sus trabajos e investigaciones en foros nacionales e internacionales, y es miembro del comité editorial de diversas publicaciones académicas.

Además, el Dr. Moreno ha recibido múltiples reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales por sus trabajos de investigación, recibió la Beca CONACYT-México para estudios de postgrado, y en la Universidad de Chicago obtuvo la Beca Esther and T.W. Schultz para investigación de tesis doctoral y fue ganador del Premio Wayne C. Booth a la Excelencia en Enseñanza. Recientemente, el Dr. Moreno obtuvo el Premio de Investigación de Impacto CIE-UANL por estudiar los costos económicos del transporte en el Área Metropolitana de Monterrey.

Sus temas de investigación incluyen Teoría de la Intermediación Financiera, Finanzas Corporativas, Microfundamentos del Desarrollo Económico y del Sistema Financiero, Microeconometría, Capital Humano, y Economía del Hogar y la Empresa.
