Sobreendeudamiento y crédito hipotecario en las carteras de los hogares: un análisis simultáneo para México

Abstract

En este trabajo se utiliza un enfoque no lineal de ecuaciones simultáneas para examinar los factores que determinan el sobreendeudamiento de los hogares y la tenencia de crédito hipotecario de los hogares mexicanos. Como ambas variables están determinadas endógenamente por la gestión
de la cartera de deuda de los hogares, este enfoque permite identificar el papel que desempeñan variables como el ingreso, la educación, la estructura del hogar y la riqueza. Nuestros resultados sugieren que, una vez que consideramos la endogeneidad de ambas variables de interés, el sobreendeudamiento podría ser resultado del deseo de los hogares mexicanos de obtener un activo inmobiliario a través de un crédito hipotecario, lo que se refleja en mayores niveles de deuda.

  • Lianet Farfán Pérez, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León-Centro de Investigaciones Económicas

    She obtained a PhD in Economic Sciences from the Faculty of Economics of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and graduated with Honorable Mention (for her average) and Summa Cumme Laude (for her academic publications).

    For her research, she has received various awards such as the “Consuelo Meyer Leppe” Research Award for her doctoral research work, and recently the “IMEF-EY International Financial Research Award” in 2022, for her work on the determinants of the debt financing term of Mexican public companies. She has collaborated in different research projects linked to the social profitability of various public policy projects, as well as the effects of foreign investment in Nuevo León.

    She is currently a Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at Tec de Monterrey and an Researcher at the Center for Economic Research at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.

  • Jorge Omar Moreno Treviño, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León- Facultad de Economía

    He studied his PhD and Master's degrees in Economics at the University of Chicago, his Master's degree in Economics at El Colegio de México, and his Bachelor's degree in Economics at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL).

    Dr. Moreno served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in various courses on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Theory of Finance, Advanced Corporate Finance, Empirical Methods in Finance, Advanced Econometrics, and Microfoundations of the Financial System and Economic Development, at El Colegio de México, the University of Chicago, and at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM); since August 2015 he is a Professor-Researcher at the Faculty of Economics at UANL where he teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is currently a National Researcher (Level 2) of the SNII-CONACYT and Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.

    Outside of academia, Dr. Moreno served as Deputy Director of Research at the General Directorate of International Tax Affairs of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP); World Bank Economist for the region of Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela, in the area of ​​Human Development; Assistant Researcher at The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) of the University of Chicago, and Guest Researcher at the Directorate of Financial System Analysis of the Bank of Mexico. He has also participated in various consulting projects for the financial sector, the private sector, and the government in their different areas.

    Dr. Jorge O. Moreno has published in various books and specialized journals on finance and economics, has been invited to present his work and research at national and international forums, and is a member of the editorial committee of various academic publications.

    In addition, Dr. Moreno has received multiple national and international awards for his research work, receiving the CONACYT-Mexico Scholarship for graduate studies, and at the University of Chicago he was awarded the Esther and T.W. Schultz Scholarship for doctoral dissertation research and was the winner of the Wayne C. Booth Award for Excellence in Teaching. Recently, Dr. Moreno was awarded the “IMEF-EY International Financial Research Award” in 2022, for his work on the determinants of the debt financing term of Mexican public companies.

    His research interests include Applied Econometrics, Financial Intermediation Theory, Corporate Finance, Microfoundations of Economic Development and the Financial System, Human Capital, and Household and Business Economics.
