Labor Productivity and Minimum Wage in Mexico. They are linked?

This work aims to demonstrate that it is possible to maintain the recent trend of increase in the minimum wage, supported by labor productivity. To this end, a national and an international comparison was carried out, the first, with annual data from 2005 to 2023 on labor productivity in Mexico, per hour
for the 32 states, contrasting its evolution and trend with respect to the minimum wage, the second comparison, with cross-sectional data for 2022, at the Latin American level, carrying out a simple correlation analysis of both labor productivity and the evolution of the mínimum wage. In both exercises, a clear disconnection between minimum wage and productivity is shown, in favor of productivity, which is even higher than the evolution of the mínimum wage. Therefore, there is room to bring the minimum wage closer to levels that exceed the poverty line.
