Abstract

The study analyzes the depreciation of human capital in Mexico between 2005 and 2024, using ENOE microdata and extended Mincer equations estimated  through robust MM regressions.  Three main hypotheses are confirmed: the returns to experience have steadily declined (from 3% in 2005 to 1.6% in 2024); depreciation is faster in technology-research and developement intensive sectors, where skill obsolescence reduces labor profitability; and women, despite achieving higer educational leveles, obtain lower returns to experience, particularly in technological enviroments. Salary simulations show that the gender gap widens as work experience increases. Overall, the results reveal a growing inequality in human capital valuation and highlight the need for continuos training and wage-equity policies in response to technological change.
